So you need not do this individually, loan by loan unless you are dealing with irregular scenarios where these would have to be done partially in bulk and on an individual basis in many instances.<\/p>\n<p>In the latest version 5.1 (released March 20 or 23, 2020) we created a tool to specifically allow the interest rate to be changed to 0.00% or reduced by x% for a determined period of time.<\/p>\n<p>NOTE: If you<strong> do not<\/strong> wish to give borrowers a break with the interest rate, skip step 1. The interest rate will remain unchanged and accrued interest will be compounded if you are charging Compound interest. If you are using Simple interest you can also capitalize that interest with the right mouse click on the last line with payment of 0.00 :<\/p>\n<p id=\"QitzKlk\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-12322 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/img_5e8b2ed69318c.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"465\" height=\"124\" srcset=\"https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/img_5e8b2ed69318c.png 578w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/img_5e8b2ed69318c-300x80.png 300w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/img_5e8b2ed69318c-450x120.png 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 465px) 100vw, 465px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Steps:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Change interest rate to 0.00% (or other rate)<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0In the &#8220;Post Payment&#8221; tool, export the payments to be &#8220;cancelled&#8221; (deferred)<\/li>\n<li>Post payments to 0.00 (or other amount) in the &#8220;Post Payment&#8221; tool<\/li>\n<li>Add new (deferred) payments at end of loan<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n1. Change interest rate to 0.00% (or other rate)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s do an example:<\/p>\n<p>Normal payment schedule before the 0.00% interest for 3 months:<\/p>\n<p id=\"xWXizyV\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12142 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e72b90f6eb63.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"586\" height=\"459\" srcset=\"https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e72b90f6eb63.png 732w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e72b90f6eb63-300x235.png 300w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e72b90f6eb63-705x552.png 705w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e72b90f6eb63-450x352.png 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 586px) 100vw, 586px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We wish to stop charging interest for the months of <strong>April<\/strong>, <strong>May<\/strong> and <strong>June<\/strong> for the loans highlighted in blue below.<\/p>\n<p>In the Main Margill window, select (highlight) the desired loans. This shortcut must then be used: &#8220;Ctrl Alt Shift i&#8221;. This window will appear with a new option &#8220;Add End date of rate change&#8221;. In normal situations this is kind of difficult to understand since a little illogical&#8230; We will probably delete this option in version 5.2&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Enter as such:<\/p>\n<p id=\"GyuvAjQ\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12138 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e72ae9023b06.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"558\" height=\"372\" srcset=\"https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e72ae9023b06.png 622w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e72ae9023b06-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e72ae9023b06-450x300.png 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 558px) 100vw, 558px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You will be prompted to do a backup &#8211; PLEASE do this just in case you enter the wrong dates &#8211; you don&#8217;t want to have to change back your interest rate loan by loan!<\/p>\n<p>In the example, notice two new lines with Rate change. In the Post Payment tool, export the payments to be cancelled\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We first wish to find all payments to be deferred. Go to Tools &gt; Post Payments (a very powerful tool!), check the box called &#8220;Use date interval&#8221; and enter the proper dates to find all such payments. Post payments to 0.00 (or other amount) in the &#8220;Post Payment&#8221; tool<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stay in the &#8220;Post Payment&#8221; tool with the current list of payments. Pmt&#8221; column amounts to 0.00 for each payment, otherwise these amounts will become outstanding. A slight pain to do one by one if you have hundreds or thousands of loans!\u00a0As of version 5.2 you can specify that the &#8220;Expected Pmt&#8221; for specific Line statuses must = 0.00. This will save a huge amount of time since the &#8220;Expect. Pmt&#8221; will automatically become 0.00 (go to Tools &gt; Settings &gt; Line payment statuses &gt; check the &#8220;Expected Pmt = 0&#8221; column for the &#8220;Deferred Pmt (0.00)&#8221; (or named as you wish) Line status).<\/p>\n<p>If you do not do this in version 5.2, then double click in each cell and delete:<\/p>\n<p id=\"juGxzzM\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"122\" height=\"171\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12154 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e72c53616bbc.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Now press on &#8220;Apply&#8221;.\u00a0The window will become blank after the payment processing stating the number of Records updated. They are now managed and <em>payments<\/em> 0.00. Add new (deferred) payments at end of loan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Adding the deferred payments at the end of the loan is the more arduous step because of the date issues.<\/p>\n<p>To import the payments back into Margill, we will be using the &#8220;Post Payment&#8221; tool once again but with the &#8220;Bulk Payment Import&#8221; option that allows us to import new payments via an Excel sheet.<\/p>\n<p id=\"YsCCbWj\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12152 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e72c326d6f4f.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"367\" height=\"153\" srcset=\"https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e72c326d6f4f.png 408w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e72c326d6f4f-300x125.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 367px) 100vw, 367px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>All we need to import the deferred payments back to each loan individually are 3 columns (and other optional ones):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Column A &#8211; the Record identifier<\/li>\n<li>Column B &#8211; the date of the deferred payment<\/li>\n<li>Column C &#8211; the amount of the deferred payment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"cpFSxHE\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12156 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e72c746d6b9e.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"657\" height=\"368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e72c746d6b9e.png 825w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e72c746d6b9e-300x168.png 300w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e72c746d6b9e-705x395.png 705w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e72c746d6b9e-450x252.png 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 657px) 100vw, 657px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We will now modify our Excel sheet. We can delete most columns and keep the three important ones even if the Payment dates are the payment dates of the original payments to be deferred. Notice a column to the far right called &#8220;Last Payment &gt; 0,00&#8221; &#8211; keep this column in order to know the very last line of the schedule (with a payment greater than 0.00) as a reference to add the next payment date (I moved and changed to red since will be temporary):<\/p>\n<p id=\"jvZKftT\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12189 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e737f154f61c.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"361\" height=\"289\" srcset=\"https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e737f154f61c.png 431w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e737f154f61c-300x240.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 361px) 100vw, 361px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In our sample loan 10035, the last payment would have been on 05-07-2021 so I added my first deferred payment one month after and added another month for each of the next two payments. Someone who&#8217;s good in Excel can probably create some way to get the dates in there quicker by using the EDATE function (see how to months below) or, for weekly payments by adding 7, 14, 21 days to the Last payment date.<\/p>\n<p>To see the payment frequency (although one can tell by the original payment date sequence) I showed the Period of payments in my Main Margill window.<\/p>\n<p id=\"stxHFhI\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12190 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e738042994d5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"772\" height=\"344\" srcset=\"https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e738042994d5.png 1062w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e738042994d5-300x134.png 300w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e738042994d5-1030x459.png 1030w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e738042994d5-705x314.png 705w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e738042994d5-450x200.png 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 772px) 100vw, 772px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">==================================================================<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Using the EDATE function in Excel<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">If you have a relatively large number of payments to add at the end of each of the loans,<br \/>\nit is really worth using the EDATE function which allows you to quickly add<br \/>\none or more months at the end of the payment schedule<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Loan 101 below ends on 12-22-2021. We must therefore add a month after this date, hence the formula:<br \/>\n=EDATE(B2; 1) where B2 is the cell and 1 is + 1 month<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Then we must add 2 months for the second to last payment<br \/>\n=EDATE(B3; 2) 2 being + 2 months<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Finally add 3 months for the new last payment<br \/>\n=EDATE(B4; 3) 3 being + 3 months<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Column F is not relevant &#8211; only used to show the number of months that need to be added<\/p>\n<p id=\"SYRyBAw\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12658 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/img_5eab53f4c074c.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"404\" height=\"409\" srcset=\"https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/img_5eab53f4c074c.png 446w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/img_5eab53f4c074c-80x80.png 80w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/img_5eab53f4c074c-297x300.png 297w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/img_5eab53f4c074c-36x36.png 36w, https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/img_5eab53f4c074c-120x120.png 120w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 404px) 100vw, 404px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The formulas can then be copied for each of the &#8220;trios&#8221;. BE CAREFUL to always have<br \/>\n1, 2, 3 and not 5, 6, 7, 8, etc. in the subsequent formulas for adding months.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Once the 3 new dates are all calculated, simply copy<br \/>\nthe &#8220;Formula&#8221; column and &#8220;Paste Special&#8221; &gt; &#8220;Values&#8221; to column B<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">==================================================================<\/p>\n<p>My Excel file is now clean and ready for import. Notice I added a Comment in column E <strong>and column F should be taken out.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I also purposely made an error in Record 106 &#8211; entered 2020 instead of 2022&#8230; There&#8217;s also a date error in Record 10028.<\/p>\n<p>Now go to Tools &gt; Post Payment tool &gt; Bulk Payment Import &gt; Import New Payments. Select the Excel file in the &#8220;File to import&#8221; section.\u00a0 Use this button\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"25\" height=\"25\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12180 \" src=\"https:\/\/margill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/img_5e73714088c07.png\" alt=\"\" \/>.<\/p>\n<p>You will see a list of all the new deferred payments and dates.<\/p>\n<p>Notice Record 106 shows as an error since these are &#8220;Due payments&#8221; in the past and before &#8220;Paid payments&#8221; which is not allowed.
